West Coast Songwriters and the Mid-Peninsula Community Media Center (“Media Center”) proudly announce the launch of the new monthly WCS Song Competition – Palo Alto.  Participating songwriters will perform their original work before a distinguished industry judge at the Media Center, 900 San Antonio Road, Palo Alto. Prizes are awarded for Best Song and Best Performance each month. The new season will run from October, 2011- July, 2012 on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Media Center Studios and will follow the regional WCS Song Competition calendar.  Each month the judge will award “Best Original Song” and “Best Performance” to competitors.  Winners of Best Song, starting in October, will have the opportunity to participate in the WCS playoffs held next summer and compete toward Song of the Year AND the opportunity to perform at the Annual WCS MUSIC CONFERENCE  (Foothill College Sep 8-10, 2012), in front of 60+ industry leaders looking to sign new musicians during the second weekend of September. The Palo Alto competition is unique in that participants will be videotaped by the Media Center Studio crew and professional quality DVDs of the two hour program will be available for purchase.  The show will also be made available to cable access stations all over the U.S through Pegmedia.org, the file sharing service utilized by cable access stations across the country.  Additionally, monthly winners will receive an invitation to perform on the Media Center’s program dedicated to original music American Songwriter.  The competition follows the guidelines for other competitions already in operation throughout the West Coast from Los Angeles to Portland.   The competition is open on a first come first served basis to members of the West Coast Songwriters.  Non-members can perform and be evaluated by the judge but cannot compete for prizes.  However, performers are welcome to join WCS in advance or on site in order to compete.
