SONGWRITING COMPETITION RULES
Note -- I am still in the process of looking for a co-manager to help with these monthly open mic competitions. Thank you to the few people have already reached out to express their interest — we'll be talking soon! So if you have not yet contacted me about your interest in helping out with our open mics, do it soon. The primary items I'm hoping a co-manager will help with are: recruiting and securing judges for our events; PR/outreach for our event, including setting up a Facebook page; and finding a local sponsor.
TONIGHT: October 25th will be a PEER JUDGED event. Look forward to seeing you there.
There are 2 winners of the Songwriting Competition each month, Best Song and Best Performance.
Best Song of the Month will receive a Premium Artist Service Package, from Noisy Planet which includes hosting up to 20 songs, 5 photos, and your bio, plus they’ll distribute one album to iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody, Amazon MP3, Napster and others. In addition you will receive 100 personalized promo cards promoting you as a featured artist on Noisy Planet. Additionally Best Song of the Month will be on the WCS YouTube Channel as a featured artist. Video file (not YouTube link), song title, location and short blurb with link to website/facebook should be provided to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Best Performance of the Month will receive a Premium Artist Service Package, from Noisy Planet which includes hosting up to 20 songs, 5 photos, and your bio, plus they’ll distribute one album to iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody, Amazon MP3, Napster and others. In addition you will receive 100 personalized promo cards promoting you as a featured artist on Noisy Planet.
A member can win Best Song Of The Month and Best Performance Of The Month twice during a season (with different songs) in each WCS Location. Playoffs are in July to determine San Francisco Best Song Of The Year. In August, the winners of Best Song of the Year from every WCS Location compete at the Finals for WCS Best Song of the Year. Three winners are chosen to perform at the annual WCS Conference in September.
Hello again, and greetings from the WCS SF Chapter. We are about to kick off our new season of monthly open mic competitions, and want you to be informed as we progress through this new year. We also have *two* big announcements to make, so let me get to them first...
Item #1 -- I am looking for a co-manager to help with these monthly open mic competitions. Things have been running fairly smoothly these past few years. However, a second hand would be great, especially when it comes to the following items, in particular: recruiting and securing judges for our events; PR/outreach for our event, including possibly setting up a Facebook page; finding a local sponsor; printing/copying all necessary materials; and taking over hosting duties on those rare occasions when I cannot make it. Volunteering as a co-manager comes with the perk of one free year of WCS membership. Please get in touch with me if you might be interested in helping run the SF Chapter. Thank you!
Item #2 -- We are working on a plan to open up some dates at the Bazaar Cafe throughout the year as "WCS Winners Showcase Nights" or something like that. The idea is that those songwriters who win Best Song or Best Performance at our monthly events will be invited to take part in these showcase nights as featured performers. Please note that we currently make no guarantees that the scheduled showcase nights will necessarily fit in with everybody's personal schedules. That said, we are looking forward to creating a new opportunity for WCS members to perform live in front of their fans, while making new fans, as well. Details to come.
Here are the dates we have set for this year's events, once again all scheduled for the last Wednesday of every month:
2017: Sep 27, Oct 25, Nov 29, Dec 27
2018: Jan 31, Feb 28, Mar 28, Apr 25, May 30, Jun 27, Jul 25 (chapter playoffs)
Mark them down in your calendars now and plan on coming! Please note that all dates are subject to change, and that double checking at the WCS & Bazaar online calendars is not a bad idea. I will, of course, try to keep you up-to-date through these e-mails, and you may e-mail to me if you have any questions. Please let me know if you do *not* want to receive these e-mails.
If you would like to perform, please ensure that your membership is current and has not expired. We are recommending that people carry a virtual copy of their card in the form of a picture on their smartphone. Check in with the fine folks at the home office if you need to renew your membership: http://www.westcoastsongwriters.org
Finally, please feel free to share these dates with some of your fellow WCS friends, and have them contact me if they would like to be on this SF Chapter mailing list. Most everyone who has performed at one of our events at the Bazaar Cafe in the past four years should already be receiving this e-mail. But there are still many more songwriters who have yet to join us at the SF Chapter. We definitely have room for more songwriters to perform at our competitions, so tell a friend and let's grow our little scene in SF this year!
I'm looking forward to our best season ever at the SF Chapter. Thanks, y'all, and I hope to see you at this week's event!
